Geography of Ancient India
Some Rivers that you Should Know About....
The Ganges River starts in the Himalaya Mountains and "flows across most of northern India." The Ganges River brings sediment to northern plains, from the Himalaya Mountains. This sediment makes the soil in the northern plains very fertile. In fact, the northern plains "contain some of the most fertile farmland in the world"!
The Indus River starts in the Himalaya Mountains like the Ganges River. Also like the Ganges River, the Indus River brings sediment to the plains, making them fertile and rich with nutrients. Melting snow from the Hindu Kush Mountains and other mountain ranges keep the Indus River's water level high.
